Educational Philosophy, Objectives, and Policy
This school’s educational philosophy is centered around developing human resources from foreign countries with superior international awareness who can contribute to the Japanese and international communities in a variety of ways.
In line with the objectives of educating international exchange students in Japanese, improving their Japanese language skills, deepening their understanding of Japanese culture and society, and developing capable human resources with international perspectives who can perform with flexibility in a wide range of fields, our policy is to practice a consistently well-rounded Japanese-language education program.
Furthermore, since many of our students come from various parts of Asia such as China, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Mongolia, we believe that giving students from these countries and regions the opportunity to engage in everyday conversations with Japanese as their common language is a very effective way to not only improve their Japanese language skills but also to deepen their exchanges and promote camaraderie.

AOI Japanese Language School was established by the Aoikai Group, which operates a number of medical and elderly care facilities in and around Abiko City, and works closely with local communities to provide contributions to their residents. As we look to the globalized society of the future, we are working together with local communities to help create a multicultural society.

Conveniently located with easy access to Tokyo and Narita Airport, Abiko boasts an abundance of nature, including Lake Tega, the natural lake nearest to Tokyo, and has an environment that is well-suited to student life. Here in Abiko, where literary luminaries such as Naoya Shiga and Saneatsu Mushanokoji penned their tales, we provide a learning environment that enables young people with dreams of coming to Japan to create new stories of their own.

Teaching
A level check test is administered at the time of enrollment,
and students are divided into beginner and intermediate levels based on the school`s criteria.
In the beginner class, students are carefully taught the basics of Japanese, such as hiragana and katakana. In the intermediate class,
students develop the Japanese language skills needed for taking exams and for acquiring even greater communication ability.
- Beginner
- The textbook “Minna no Nihongo 1” is used, and students develop basic Japanese language skills.
Students grasp basic Japanese language skills such as hiragana and katakana with the aim of establishing knowledge of basic grammar.
In addition, students develop daily conversation-level conversation skills through activity-based lessons.
- Intermediate
- The textbook “Minna no Nihongo 1” is used, and students develop language skills equivalent to what is required for level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
In addition to vocabulary and grammar, output activities such as written compositions and speeches are also actively incorporated.
The lessons aim to improve the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing necessary for academic entrance exams.

Please submit your application and documents no later than 6 months prior to your enrollment.
Entrance Examination
There will be a private interview and a written exam.

Admissions Screening
After reviewing the documentation, we will apply on your behalf for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan. *The process requires approximately 2 months.
Result Notification
If the COE is granted, we will send you a “Notification of Acceptance” and “Enrollment Procedure Guide”.

Entrance Examination Guideline
1. Qualification for applicants
①Applicants who have completed at least 12 years of general school education in countries outside Japan (*Beginning from Elementary school), with good academic results and who has high motivation for learning.
② Applicants who can comply with the laws of Japan and the school’s regulations.
③Applicants who can manage to pay all school and living expenses.
④Applicants who have previously studied Japanese for a minimum of 150 hours in their native country, and have also acquired a Japanese language skill level equivalent to or greater than N5 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
⑤ Applicants should apply no later than 5 years after graduating from their previous school.

Submission Procedures
From overseas: It is preferably for applicants to submit their applications via one of our overseas offices or study abroad agencies especially for the translation parts but we also accept direct inquiries.
Within Japan: If a someone is applying on behalf of the applicant, he/she must come directly to the school to submit the application and selection fee with his/her ID.

Notes regarding application procedures
・All documents must be hand written by the applicant and the sponsor. Please make sure everything is filled in.
・Do not make corrections or use whiteout. If you need to make corrections, please use a new form.
・All documents written in a language other than Japanese must be submitted with a separate document with the corresponding Japanese translation.

If you are accepted, we will send you a “Notification of Acceptance” and “Enrollment Procedure Guide”. Please review the Enrollment Procedure Guide and follow the procedure by the given deadline.
●Notes regarding enrollment procedures
・If you fail to follow the procedures by the corresponding deadlines, we will assume that you have declined your admission.
・If you request to decline your admission, fees such as tuition (admission fee excluded) will be refunded.
Part Time Jobs
Foreign students are allowed to work up to 28 hours per week.
Students are allowed to work up to 40 hours per week (8 hours a day) during long school breaks by submitting the workplace a certificate issued by the school.
Students must have a Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted to work in Japan.
Students can apply and receive this permission at immigration after you submit an application form designated by the Immigration Bureau.
However, students are prohibited from working in the adult entertainment business or working overtime.
